Meet our candidates: Alan Russell, Wolverhampton Heath Town

“I grew up in Heath Town with my dad witnessing firsthand the hopelessness of a parent trying to do the best for their child whilst unable to find employment and being left with no option but to claim benefits to survive.

Fast forward and now I’m a dad and though thankfully in work I worry for my child’s future. The needless wasted potential of past and future generations of the British working class must not be allowed to continue. Ever worsening conditions, crumbling public services, lack of decent affordable housing and zero job prospects for most of us. I joined the Labour Party with the wave of the Corbyn movement longing for change but witnessed that hope snatched away from within the party itself and with that the realisation the party does not represent the working class. I stand for socialism which is why I stand with the Workers Party of Britain.”
