Online meeting with Q&A: Workers need fighting unions
7 July @ 8:00 pm-9:30 pm
Tune in to our livestream on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter for a weekly public meeting. This week: how can the working class defend itself from unemployment and poverty as the economic crisis of capitalism deepens?
With the end of the furlough scheme in sight, employers large and small are falling over themselves to offload ‘surplus’ workers. But how will putting workers on the dole fix the economy? If everyone’s unemployed, who will buy what those who remain in productive labour are producing?
This conundrum is as old as capitalism, and as insoluble (for the capitalists).
In the meantime, workers have a choice. We can sit back and accept our lot, sinking ever deeper into poverty and destitution, or we can fight for the right to a share of the wealth that we ourselves have created.
More jobs, higher wages and better conditions will only come to us if we are prepared to struggle for them, but to do that, we need strong and militant trade union organisation. Without fighting unions, we won’t even be able to defend what remain of workers’ rights in Britain, never mind turning the tide in workers’ favour once again.
George Galloway will address the meeting, and members of the Workers Party will be able to log in and make contributions or ask questions via zoom.
