This party congress is honoured that our party leader, George Galloway and esteemed
member of our National Member’s Council, Gayatri Galloway were hosted by the Russian Federation for the auspicious event that was the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan last year. This invitation was no doubt a recognition of Galloway’s service to the cause of multilateralism as opposed to an imperialist unilateral world order.
Congress recognises that the rising economic giants that are India, China and
post-Soviet Russia are shaping the world into something unrecognisable to that of the world of the last decade. That is one which is not dominated by Anglo-American hegemony backed up by the NATO war machine.
Congress identifies this shift as a wholly progressive one for several reasons:
– This shift occurred in a remarkably peaceful way despite the violent reactions by
Anglo-American imperialism.
– This shift is based on countries building their own economy and productive capacity to deliver more prosperous lives for their people once impoverished and immiserated by imperial and colonial domination.
– This shift is based on the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty of
nation-states and a celebration of our unique and different national cultures.
This shift has helped other regions in the world totally left behind by imperialism develop and solve crushing social problems. China’s Belt and Road Initiative has enabled some of the poorest regions in Sub-Saharan Africa to invest in vital infrastructure necessary to build communities and provide jobs for the people who inhabit these regions. Russia is carrying out vital development work in the Donbass region after suffering heavy bombardment by the Kiev regime for eight agonising years.
Congress understands that the fight for a multilateral world order is far from over and the closer we get to this scenario, the more our imperialist ruling class will provoke military conflagrations in several flashpoints across the world. Such flashpoints include Ukraine, Taiwan, Palestine and more. These flashpoints bring us to the catastrophic scenario of World War III with an unprecedented use of nuclear warheads.
Congress recognises that the Workers Party is the only party in Great Britain that
supports multilateralism and all those who seek a multilateral and anti-imperialist world order should be in the ranks of the Workers Party. All other parties are wedded to NATO and despite paying lip service to workers rights, wokeism, ‘diversity and inclusivity’ are in actual fact sabre-rattling for escalation with Russia and China as perceived arch-nemeses of the west.
In light of these facts, congress instructs the Workers Party to uphold the principle of
multilateralism in all its communications about international affairs and to maintain friendly relations with all forces upholding multilateralism. This must be done whilst fostering the strongest links with the British working class as the primary agents of social change in Britain and the prime beneficiaries of multilateralism.
Britain can be great again, not as an imperial jailer of nations but as a nation
amongst nations.
The new world is being born and Britain risks sinking with the old world if we do not become a ‘global’ nation rather than a western nation. We voted for Brexit in order to free ourselves to make trade and economic deals with the wider world. Sadly Brexit was squandered and the UK chose to shackle its ankles even more securely to the USA and NATO. It must be raised with the public at every opportunity that the world is a lot bigger than the ‘west’ and the fastest growing economies are outside the auspices of the West. The WPB should be calling for the UK to join BRICS and the Belt & Road Intiative. As an island strategically placed we could easily become a mid way point for goods and services for Europe and the wider world. Chinese investment in our ports and coastal areas would bring technology, jobs and infrastructure to very deprived areas. I wholeheartedly second this motion.
