This motion calls for Congress to formally recognise and pay due respect to those who have gone before us, those who are currently with us, and those who will be with us moving forward in the Workers Party, including:
– Those who laid the foundations of our Workers Party, since its conception in 2019; Not least our current General Secretary and our current Leader.
-Those who met briefly in dusty rooms before being confined to grappling with Zoom meetings during Covid, but still succeeded in keeping that new Party going.
-Those who managed to miraculously emerge from this period of chaos, on the back foot, to fight a by-election in Batley and Spen in July 2021.
-Those Party organisers and coordinators who have supported the membership, helped set up formal Branches, and spent endless hours on the phone for a multitude of reasons.
-All the volunteers (some of whom fall into the above categories), who have helped design and distribute leaflets, turn out for campaigns and canvassing, attended rallies, been there every step of the way to help George Galloway and the Workers Party achieve Parliamentary Election success in February 2024.
-All of the contributors and administrators of the Workers GB Discussion Telegram Group, which was active for a brief but incredibly democratic, dramatic, and sometimes perplexing period of winter 2023/2024 during the creation of our Party Manifesto – never before has a political party engaged with its supporters and membership so much.
-All those candidates and members who have joined us since that time, and helped us fight our first general election in July 2024.
-But most of all, to those who devoted their time to creating the fundamental basis on which we now stand: Our manifesto, our Ten Point Programme, and other matters such as our historic Corona Tax campaign and our ongoing Football campaign, our graphics templates, our brand identity. All of these things cannot be taken for granted.
Congress pays its due respect and gives its thanks to all of them.
May we endeavour to ensure that we continue to welcome new members, leaving a lasting legacy of our hard work, integrity, and common sense socialist principles.
