The National Members Council met on November 9th. It has decreed the forthcoming Congress of the Workers Party be known as the “Special Congress 2025”.
This Congress is called less than 18 months after the last Congress in what is typically a four year cycle. The Congress is necessitated by the need to expand our national democratic body to reflect the growth in our membership and capabilities. The National Members Council agrees that the Congress be held over the weekend of 8-9 February in Greater Manchester.
Registration Fee £25 waged / £10 unwaged
Registration for full members will not be restricted except by any limitation imposed upon us by the venue. Places may therefore be limited and we urge you to book early.
Pre-Congress Discussion
The national members council urges members to familiarise themselves with the decisions of our previous Congress available freely online. Congress time will be pressed and so we will facilitate the widest possible discussion before Congress, by a full and transparent publication of motions, amendments and business online. This will give any business that cannot be debated on 8-9 February the opportunity to be consulted on by members and the public, which shall be taken into account by the incoming NMC.
The party welcomes contributions for discussion on all other subjects, including the strategy and tactics of the party, elections, social issues. These do not have to take the form of specific resolutions, correspondence will be published online.
The Special Congress 2025 shall follow this timeline and arrangements:
Those registered as party members and in good standing with their subscriptions on 9 November 2024 are eligible to participate in the Congress as full members of the party.
Full members may propose motions and nominate candidates for election.
Any member wishing to check their status is invited to telephone Ed Renyard 0333 33 55 782 or by email headoffice@workerspartybritain.org providing full name and address.
Those lapsed, resigned or not in good standing on 9 November may not participate in the Congress as per Rule 4.5 except by way of special permission granted in writing by the General Secretary. In these cases those lapsed or resigned or seeking re-admittance shall be permitted to participate on the basis outlined in writing by the General Secretary.
Motions
Public Announcement of Congress will be made on 9 November 2025
Motions to be submitted by Sunday 12 January 2359hrs
Motions may be submitted only by full members of the party. Motions must be no longer than 500 words and must be moved at Congress by the proposer (full member) and seconded. Should the proposer fail to be in attendance the motion shall be moved by the Seconder. Seconders must be full members of the party.
Amendments must be submitted by Sunday 19 January 2359hrs.
Elections
Nominations are open for the following officer positions: Party Leader, Deputy Leader & General Secretary. Nominations close 2359hrs 12 January 2025.
